Garcinone E
Garcinone E is active constituents in the anticomplement assay used. Garcinone E exhibits potent activity in vitro against Plasmodium falciparum chloroquine-resistant strain W2, with IC50 values below 3 µM. It has potent cytotoxic effect on all hepatocellular carcinomas cell lines as well as on the other gastric and lung cancer cell lines included in the screen, may be potentially useful for the treatment of certain types of cancer.

Providing storage is as stated on the product vial and the vial is kept tightly sealed, the product can be stored for up to
24 months(2-8C).
Wherever possible, you should prepare and use solutions on the same day. However, if you need to make up stock solutions in advance, we recommend that you store the solution as aliquots in tightly sealed vials at -20C. Generally, these will be useable for up to two weeks. Before use, and prior to opening the vial we recommend that you allow your product to equilibrate to room temperature for at least 1 hour.

The packaging of the product may have turned upside down during transportation, resulting in the natural compounds adhering to the neck or cap of the vial. take the vial out of its packaging and gently shake to let the compounds fall to the bottom of the vial. for liquid products, centrifuge at 200-500 RPM to gather the liquid at the bottom of the vial. try to avoid loss or contamination during handling.

Garcinone E, a xanthone derivative, has potent cytotoxic effect against hepatocellular carcinoma cell lines.[Pubmed:
12451486]
Treatment of hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) with chemotherapy has generally been disappointing and it is most desirable to have more effective new drugs.
METHODS AND RESULTS:
We extracted and purified 6 xanthone compounds from the rinds (peel) of the fruits of Garcinia mangostana L., using partitioned chromatography and then tested the cytotoxic effects of these compounds on a panel of 14 different human cancer cell lines including 6 hepatoma cell lines, based on the MTT method. Several commonly used chemotherapeutic agents were included in the assay to determine the relative potency of the potential new drugs.
CONCLUSIONS:
Our results have shown that one of the xanthone derivatives which could be identified as Garcinone E has potent cytotoxic effect on all HCC cell lines as well as on the other gastric and lung cancer cell lines included in the screen. We suggest that Garcinone E may be potentially useful for the treatment of certain types of cancer.

Xanthone constituents of the fruits of Garcinia mangostana with anticomplement activity.[Pubmed:
20878711]
METHODS AND RESULTS:
Phytochemical investigation of a chloroform-soluble fraction of the freeze-dried fruits of Garcinia mangostana (Clusiaceace) with anticomplement activity in the classical pathway led to the identification of five known xanthones. The structures of these compounds were confirmed by interpretation of NMR and MS spectroscopic data.
CONCLUSIONS:
Of the isolates obtained, 1-isomangostin and Garcinone E were found to be active constituents in the anticomplement assay used.
