WebLink]
To study the chemical constituents in 60% ethanol extract from the fruit of Gardenia jasminoides.
METHODS AND RESULTS:
The compounds were isolated by various chromatographic techniques and identified by spectroscopic methods. Twelve compounds were obtained and identified as gardenianan A (1), syringaresinol (2), pinoresinol (3), syringaresinol-4-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (4), lariciresinol (5), alangilignoside D (6), lyoniresinol (7), lyoniresinol-9-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (8), balanophonin (9), Glycosmisic acid (10), ficusal (11), and ceplignan (12).
CONCLUSIONS:
Compound 1 is a new compound named gardenianan A. Compounds 2 - 6 and 9 - 12 are reported for the first isolation from the plants of Gardenia Ellis.
