Euonymus nanus is a member of the Euonymus family. Its botanical name is Euonymus nanus. The scientific name epithet nanus means 'dwarf'. Euonymus, often called spindle or spindle tree, is a genus of flowering plants in the staff vine family.
The shrubs grow to a height of approximately 2 meters. Euonymus nanus var. nanus is a decidious plant with simple leaves. The leaves are arranged alternately along the stems. They are linear with entire margins. The flowers are cross-shaped and white. The plants bloom from May to July. The flowers are arranged in cymes. The red fruits are loculicidal capsules. They develop in autumn. Euonymus nanus var. nanus is native to Romania, the western European Russia, the Caucasus, Central Asia and West China.
The Dwarf Spindle prefers a sunny to half shady site and can withstand temperatures down to -34,4º C. It grows best in sandy or pebbly, loamy soil, sandy clay soil that is moderately moist to moist.
